Essex service search and rescue dog team John Ball and his border collie Darcy have won a bravery award for their international work.
Since training Darcy as a puppy, John has gone on to take his four-legged friend to many incidents in Essex. The team were also a part of international rescue efforts in Sumatra in 2009 and in Nepal after the devastating earthquakes last year. Continue reading

Greenpeace activists carried out an astounding series of stunts in the centre of London on Monday to increase awareness of air pollution and demand government action.
Several campaigners climbed Nelson’s Column in the early hours of the morning. Alison Garrigan, 29, and Luke Jones, 30, ascended Admiral Lord Nelson, towering 52 metres above Trafalgar Square, with an emergency face mask which they placed over his face. Continue reading

Young skateboarders have dismayed residents of Stansted Mountfichet by turning their backs on a new skate park.
Daniel Birmingham, 25, who lives near Forest Hall Park, said: “I feel the issue of the kids skating the stairs near my house can not only be dangerous but it is very disruptive to neighbours. The skate park is a 10-minute walk away. If one of them has an accident I will have to help. Only the other day a skater broke a leg down the park. It is likely to happen here.” Continue reading
