The University of Essex Students Union yesterday put on a free Christmas dinner for students who are staying on campus during the winter break.
Students could take the roast and Christmas pud home or eat at the SU bar while listening to a band. The meal took two weeks to organise to ensure covid-19 saftey.
Johnny Marriot, 32, the SU student engagement manager, said: “We see ourselves as an unconventional family and we wanted to make students feel loved and welcomed.”
“People picked their meals up in quarter-of-an-hour minute slots,” he said.”Everyone had to sanitise their hands and keep their masks on.”
The SU is planning an online event during New Year’s Eve with quizzes and prizes.
