A manhunt has been launched by the Essex police after the body of an 83-year-old was found in his home in Aldham village last Tuesday.

Donald Ralph was found at approximately 1pm in what is believed by the police to be a targeted attack.

Essex police are searching for suspect Leighton Snook, a 28-year-old man from Colchester. However, they are broadening their search to areas such as Hastings, Hartlepool, Suffolk and County Durham.

On Wednesday night a 16-year-old was arrested in Colchester and is being held in custody on suspicion of the murder.

Essex police say they urgently need to locate Leighton Snook to speak to him and have asked for anyone who is aware of his whereabouts to come forward.

“Anybody who is found to be assisting those involved in the murder in any way will be subject of a thorough investigation and could find themselves prosecuted for assisting an offender,” said Detective Chief Inspector Scott Egerton.

Ralph’s car was stolen during the attack and is still missing. Police are asking anyone has any information on the whereabouts of the car to come forward. It is a blue Volvo V50, registration HD08 YFV. It was last recorded being driven to Hastings on the morning of the murder.

DCI Egerton said: “I’d like to thank members of the public who have helped with our ongoing investigation.”

Anyone with information on the murder case or the whereabouts of can contact Essex Police or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
