Essex Blades battled against UEA in the action-packed 2022 Derby Day this Wednesday (27th April).
After a day of chants and cheers, the Blades lost 10.5 to University of East Anglia’s 18.5, marking UEA’s eighth successive win.
The 20th edition of Derby Day was hosted on Essex University’s vast campus, with the sports centre seeing hundreds of spectators through its doors.
The 29 different sports showcased over 40 teams competing in a single day in the biggest sporting event of the year.

The @essexsu Instagram shared the athletes with their medals, mid-action shots of some of the sports, as well as the great turnout for support Essex students showed.
The post said: “The final overall score… may not have been in our favour but we can’t help but feel like winners.
“Well done to our fantastic Blades, UEA & everyone who made this event possible,” Essex SU said.

Essex student and frequent Rebel Radio presenter, Joe Holmes, joked about being a photographer for the event in the comments.
“30 sports if you count running round taking these photos,” he wrote.

UEA students had their own fun on social media with a TikTok video of students participating in the ‘’#puttheseonandpose’ trend, where strangers take photographs in the same pair of sunglasses and put them in a rapid slideshow to music.
The TikTok was captioned “Oh UEA is truly wonderful”, with hashtags such as ‘#derbyday’ and ‘#webatteredtheblades’.

Until next year, UEA.
