Polish Society raises cash for Ukraine

Essex Polish Society is gathering important items for petrified Ukrainian refugees this week.  

Bring donations to Wolfson Court (by the North Towers), Flat 3.  

The society are looking for:  

  •  Clothes (unisex and all sizes): raincoats, jumpers, hoodies, tops, trousers, socks, underwear, hats, scarves, etc.  
  • Hygiene products: hand wash, body wash, toothpaste, deodorant, diapers, sanitary products, baby wipes, baby powder  
  • First aid and health items: masks, hand sanitisers, plasters, bandages, paper towels, etc.  

They will be collecting until Wednesday 2nd March between 10-11am.

Ukraine and Russia: How Will Other Nations Be Affected?

A Lebanese student shares how neighbouring countries might suffer in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.   

Alan Yammine, a 19 year old biomedical science student, said: “Lebanon is influenced by countries such as Iran and Syria, which both have good relations with Russia simply because they don’t with the US. This has been ruining our economy since 1990 once the civil war in Lebanon ended.”

SU’s Greenhouse Café is an Immediate Success

The Student’s Union’s new Greenhouse Café has enjoyed a week of success since opening at the start of term, 17th January.  

SU’s “newest social space, created by and for Essex students” has seen many visitors flocking through its plant-decked doors in a race for much needed Starbucks’ coffee. 

“It’s a really nice place to catch up with friends,” one student said on the @essexsu_greenhouse Instagram page. Another said: “There’s lots of cute plants, the lighting is really good. It’s great for Insta pics.”
